BEING AND BECOMING. PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY

Do people encourage you or discourage you to achieve your goals? How do you feel with their comments?

This week, listening to a talk show on NPR, I heard a very interesting interview. A popular American sports talk show host was telling audience how her career began. She claimed that even though she is a woman and over fifty years old, she is still on the top of the sports radio hosts.

She also said that when she started her career, nobody believed in her. In her opinion, due to the fact that most sports hosts are young men, everyone discouraged her to pursue her dream. The popular host added that these comments didn't discourage her. Instead, they made the opposite effect; these discouraging comments motivated her to pursue her dream!

What an exemplary attitude!

Very often, I do not need others to discourage me because I get discouraged by myself. But, over the years, I have improved my attitude and I have also learned that motivation comes from confidence. Knowing who you are and who you want to become, you can achieve better your goals.

So, this week I am attaching another MartA story. I wrote it last year for a group of Immigrants from Central America.  It is very consistent with the sports host optimism and motivation. This story is called The three seeds and it personally helps me to maintain a positive attitude and being perseverant.

I hope you like it and it motivates you to pursue your dream.
